Turkey
Adopted
Venus and Milo are Royal Palm turkeys. The Royal Palm turkeys first emerged out of a mixed flock of Black, Bronze, Narragansett, and Wild turkeys on Enoch Carson's farm in Lake Worth, Florida in the 1920s. Since then, further selection has been made to stabilize the consistency of color and other characteristics. They have been bred to be show birds, not meat birds.
When we first adopted the two turkeys, the female was adept at catching flying flies. We gave her the name, Venus, as she would close her beak on them much like a Venus fly trap. Milo named as a play on the title of the Greek sculpture.
