Thank you for your interest in becoming a plant and animal sanctuary volunteer. It takes a lot of hands to help make FPG Plant & Animal Sanctuary run effectively. We have both local and onsite volunteers who help us at the sanctuary.
Local Volunteer
The local volunteers are people who live in Hawai'i. They come to the sanctuary and help with the various projects that we run. Local volunteers help for a few hours at a time, then return to their hale. Over time, they get to see the long-term effects of their contribution. Local volunteers of all ages* are welcome to help our cause.
We are a great animal sanctuary to volunteer at. The pasture animals (never farm animals) are typically very calm, each with their own personality. Many of them are animal refugees from the 2018 lava flow and Big Island Dairy closure.
* Minors must be accompanied by their parent or guardian.
Onsite Volunteer
Onsite volunteers tend to be ha'ole, and become the regular team members at the sanctuary. They come from across the ocean to help with the various projects that we run. They stay on property for one to three months and provide the plants and animals the consistency of care that they require. There are other roles that these team members can take on. Onsite volunteers must be 18 years or older to stay on property.
Before you volunteer at the sanctuary, whether local or onsite, please fill out our volunteer waiver.
The following points are regularly brought up to us when onsite volunteers join our team:
